Basic Ways to Search in IRIS

There are several options for searching IRIS:

WORDS anywhere Searches all fields at once.
AUTHOR keyword Searches anywhere in the author field for the words you enter
AUTHOR (last name first) Assumes the family name is entered first in author field
TITLE keyword Searches anywhere in the title field for the words you enter
TITLE begins with (omit first article) Searches for titles that start with the words you enter
PERIODICAL TITLE keyword Searches anywhere in the periodical title field for the words you enter
PERIODICAL TITLE begins with Searches for periodical titles that start with the words you enter
SUBJECT keyword Searches anywhere in the subject field for the words you enter
SUBJECT begins with Searches for subject headings that start with the words you enter
ISBN (omit hyphens) Searches for International Standard Book Numbers
ISSN (use hyphen) Searches for International Standard Serial Numbers (use for periodicals)
MUSIC publisher number Searches for unique number for a music score
RESERVES (via Navigation Bar) Searches for course materials placed on reserve by an instructor
