Types of Databases

The two types of databases that you will be using are: library catalogs and article indexes.

Library catalogs

organize all of the materials a library purchases. They include records for books, magazines, journals, newspapers, videos, sound recordings, images, etc.

The library catalog does not include articles.
     Examples:

IRIS (Rutgers Libraries' Catalog)
E-ZBorrow
JerseyCat

Article indexes are used to identify articles on a topic.

Some article indexes such as Academic Search Premier are general or multidisciplinary. Many indexes specialize in a particular subject area, such as biology, literature, or business.

Examples:
     BIOSIS Previews
     Literature Resource Center
     Business and Industry Database
